The State Contest is scheduled to occur in-person in Laramie on April 24th & 25th! Following COVID-19 guidelines, there will be the possibility of needing to shift to a virtual event, and 4 of 5 project categories will be offered for students to participate fully virtually.

Details for 2022 Wyoming History Day State Contest:

  • Online Registration/Submission
    • Closes on Monday, April 8th @ 09:59 p.m.
    • NO LATE REGISTRATION!
    • All projects need to be UPLOADED on zFairs by April 18th. Judges will be given access to projects the week before State, to ensure proper time allotment for fair judgement.

Competition Schedule 

  • April 24th - Showcase at 4:00pm
    • Please have all projects on-site at Gateway Center by 2:00pm.
  • April 25th - Presentations begin at 8:00am. 
    • Judging will occur throughout the day, until 1:30-200pm. 
    • All results in by 3:00pm, awards ceremony scheduled for 3:30pm.

2022 National History Day Contest: Shifted to VIRTUAL Contest, June 12th-16th. 

Eligibility:
The annual Wyoming History Day State Competition is open to qualifying students in the Junior and Senior age divisions. The top three entries from each of Wyoming’s seven regional contests qualify to advance to the state contest. After the state contest is decided, the first and second place finishers in each category will advance to the national competion at the University of Maryland.

We are thrilled that you are participating the Wyoming History Day State Contest! The National History Day program is an excellent opportunity for you to develop critical thinking skills, analyze multiple perspectives and conduct in-depth research about a topic in history which you are passionate about. You'll have an opportunity to meet other students from across Wyoming and witness their passion for history through the 2022 theme, "Debate & Diplomacy in History: Successes, Failures, and Consequences."

Student Behavior 

  • All students will be expected to follow COVID-19 guidelines as presented by the University of Wyoming at the time of competition.
  • Students are expected to conduct themselves, in person and online, in a manner that brings credit to themselves and their schools.
  • Treat other competitors with respect at all times.
  • All students must be accompanied by a teacher or chaperone while at the contest. 
  • Chaperones are responsible for the behavior of the students in their charge. 
  • Pack out everything you pack in, including contest supplies. Please, do not leave exhibits or performance props behind.
  • We are guests at the University of Wyoming and want to be invited back. Students are expected to be respectful of the space and all members of the Wyoming History Day community. Be conscientious and supportive towards your peers.

  • Teachers need to register prior to their students registering. Click on the "Create Account" tab above or in the sidebar. 
  • All students must register for the State Contest by Monday, April 8, 2021 @ 9:59 p.m.
  • Create a Username and Password to access registration. 
  • You can view your students' registration information under My Students.

Welcome VOLUNTEERS to the 2021 Wyoming History Day State Contest!

As a volunteer, your help is critical to the success of the two-day contest which takes place on the University of Wyoming campus in Laramie. Thank you for offering your time to the National History Day program in Wyoming. 

Wyoming History Day needs volunteers for the following tasks...

  • April 16, 2021 (Friday):
    • Morning - Sort and stuff folders for WHD TEACHERS. (Need 2 volunteers) Each teacher will have the following in their folder...
      • WHD Schedule of Student projects/presentations.
      • Student participation certificates (printed on card stock)
      • 2021 WHD Schedule of Events
      • Campus Maps (American Heritage Center, MHRGC and UW Conference Center)
      • Campus Maps (Bus Transportation Routes)
      • Monuments Tour
    • Morning - Sort and stuff folders for WHD JUDGES. Each folder will include the following...
      • Judge's schedule (depending on division & category)
      • One copy of the rules for their category.
      • One copy of overview of NHD theme.
      • Judges scoring sheets for each individual/group (Sets of 3)
    • Afternoon (No later than 3:00 p.m.): (Need 2-3 volunteers)
      • Hang WHD Room signs and arrows at AHC (Sheep Industry Room, Rouse Room, StockGrower's Room, Miller Classroom and UW Art Museum Classroom) 
      • Set-Up Sheep Industry Room with projector and computer. arrange tables so that one table with three seats is near the front of the room. 
      • Set-Up Rouse Room with projector and computer (include a sticky note with username and passwords for the computer)
      • Load up vehicles with ALL necessary equipment, papers, etc to operate the contest on Sunday/Monday at UW CC/Hilton.
  • April 18, 2021 (Sunday):
    • 3:00 p.m. - Meet at UW Conference Center and Hilton Garden Inn to unload vehicles and set-up all the rooms. (Need 2-3 volunteers)
      • UW Conference Center Exhibit Hall - Set-Up #'s
      • UW Conference Center - Set-Up Registration & Merchandise Table 
      • UW Conference Center - Set-Up Board Room
      • Hang Location Signs
      • Set-Up Judges room in the Hilton Garden Inn Ballroom
    • 4:30 - 8:00 p.m. - Need 3-4 volunteers to help at registration & merchandise tables. 
    • 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. - Check-In/Registration for WHD Teachers and Students
  • April 19, 2021 (Monday):
    • 7:00 - 8:30 a.m. - Assist at registration table
    • 7:00 - 9:00 a.m. - Manage merchandise table
    • 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. - Manage merchandise table
    • 11:00 - 1:00 p.m. - Manage merchandise table
    • 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. - Manage merchandise table
    • 3:00 - 3:30 p.m. - Pack up merchandise table and take to Hilton Boardroom. 
    • 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. - MHRGC Building Assistant
    • 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. - MHRGC Building Assistant
    • 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. - Assistant in Judge's Room (Hilton Garden Ballroom) (Need 2 volunteers)
    • 3:00-4:00 p.m. - Need 2 volunteers to hand out 2020 WHD programs as teachers and students enter the MHRGC ballroom for the Awards Ceremony.
