2021 WY History Day State Contest!

Changes TBD based on COVID-19: Currently, Wyoming History Day is planning to host an in-person contest on April 18-19, 2021. However, we may have to transition to a virtual contest much like we did for the 2020 WHD state contest. If necessary, any changes will be conveyed as soon as they are known.

 

Details for 2021 WHD State Contest:

  • In-Person Contest Dates: Sunday, April 18, 2021 and Monday, April 19, 2021.
  • On-Line Registration for the In-person Contest
    • Closes on Wednesday, April 07 @ 09:59 p.m.
    • Late registration closes on Friday, April 09 @ Noon. 
  • On-Site Check-In: Sunday, April 18 (5:00 to 8:00 p.m.) and Monday, April 19 (7:30-10:00 a.m.)
  • Location:
    • UW American Heritage Center
    • University of Wyoming Conference Center
    • University of Wyoming Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center
    • Hilton Garden Inn (Judges and Volunteers)
  • Websites and Papers MUST be submitted/uploaded to your account in the registration system by Friday, April 07, 2021 @ 9:59 p.m. MDT.

Special Awards: Over $10000 in cash and scholarships are available to students thanks to the generous support of many individuals, businesses and organizations throughout Wyoming. To be considered for a special award, students competing at State must nominate themselves in advance during online registration. Please limit your choices to the awards which match your project. For example, if you didn't conduct an oral history interview for your research then don't nominate yourself for the William H. Barton Award. 

**Scholarships marked with an **REQUIRE the submission of your process paper and annotated bibliography (combine your process paper and annotated bibliography into ONE document) and email to wyominghistoryday@gmail.com

**Students won't be able to see the "Special Awards Nomination" tab until after they have filled out the Permission/Waivers page of registration. Once you save that page, a page will populate that says "Registration Fee Payment Method" at the top, select Pay by Check (even if that is not how you will pay). The page will  populate with two light blue sections and a yellowish section, under which on the left side of the page it will ask you to click "I Agree". Click the "I Agree" button. The page will repopulate again with the Special Awards Nominations tab. It's light blue with white writing on the left hand side. **If you don't see the Special Awards Nominations tab during your regular registration you can access it from your MY PROFILE tab under your login name (in the upper right corner of the main page).

Eligibility:
The annual Wyoming History Day State Competition is open to qualifying students in the Junior and Senior age divisions. The top three entries from each of Wyoming’s seven regional contests qualify to advance to the state contest. After the state contest is decided, the first and second place finishers in each category will advance to the national competion at the University of Maryland.

We are thrilled that you are participating the 2020 Wyoming History Day State Contest! The National History Day program is an excellent opportunity for you to develop critical thinking skills, analyze multiple perspectives and conduct in-depth research about a topic in history which you are passionate about. You'll have an opportunity to meet other students from across Wyoming and witness their passion for history through the 2020 theme, "Breaking Barriers in History"

You MUST be registered by Wednesday, April 22 at 9:59 p.m. 

Details for 2020 WHD State Contest:

  • Contest Dates: Judging will occure from Friday, April 24 to Monday, May 4.
  • Contest Results: Announced on Tuesday, May 5.
  • On-Line Registration for the Contest: Closes on Wednesday, April 22 @ 09:59 p.m.
    • There is NO late registration.

  2. From the drop down menu/list, select "Student"
  3. The page should prompt for your name and email, fill this out

Special Awards: You may self nominate for special awards. Be sure to read over each award description to determine if you are eligible for that award. For example, if you did a project about the Medicine Wheel you would NOT be eligible for the homesteading or women's history awards, etc. 2020 WHD Special Awards-Scholarships (DRAFT 3-19-2020).docx

Scholarships: You are only eligible for scholarships if you are in the 11th or 12th grade. 

Pre-Order T-Shirts:

If you would like to order a t-shirt, I need your size and style (ladies cut or men's/unisex cut) no later than APRIL 22, 2020 (Wednesday).

Welcome JUDGES to the 2020 WY History Day State Contest!

Welcome VOLUNTEERS to the 2020 Wyoming History Day State Contest!

As a volunteer, your help is critical to the success of the two-day contest which takes place on the University of Wyoming campus in Laramie. Thank you for offering your time to the National History Day program in Wyoming. 

Wyoming History Day needs volunteers for the following tasks...

  • April 17, 2020 (Friday):
    • Morning - Sort and stuff folders for WHD TEACHERS. (Need 2 volunteers) Each teacher will have the following in their folder...
      • WHD Schedule of Student projects/presentations.
      • Student participation certificates (printed on card stock)
      • 2020 WHD Schedule of Events
      • Campus Maps (American Heritage Center, MHRGC and UW Conference Center)
      • Campus Maps (Bus Transportation Routes)
      • Monuments Tour
    • Morning - Sort and stuff folders for WHD JUDGES. Each folder will include the following...
      • Judge's schedule (depending on division & category)
      • One copy of the rules for their category.
      • One copy of overview of NHD theme.
      • Judges scoring sheets for each individual/group (Sets of 3)
    • Afternoon (No later than 3:00 p.m.): (Need 2-3 volunteers)
      • Hang WHD Room signs and arrows at AHC (Sheep Industry Room, Rouse Room, StockGrower's Room, Miller Classroom and UW Art Museum Classroom) 
      • Set-Up Sheep Industry Room with projector and computer. arrange tables so that one table with three seats is near the front of the room. 
      • Set-Up Rouse Room with projector and computer (include a sticky note with username and passwords for the computer)
      • Load up vehicles with ALL necessary equipment, papers, etc to operate the contest on Sunday/Monday at UW CC/Hilton.
  • April 19, 2020 (Sunday):
    • 3:00 p.m. - Meet at UW Conference Center and Hilton Garden Inn to unload vehicles and set-up all the rooms. (Need 2-3 volunteers)
      • UW Conference Center Exhibit Hall - Set-Up #'s
      • UW Conference Center - Set-Up Registration & Merchandise Table 
      • UW Conference Center - Set-Up Board Room
      • Hang Location Signs
      • Set-Up Judges room in the Hilton Garden Inn Ballroom
    • 4:30 - 8:00 p.m. - Need 3-4 volunteers to help at registration & merchandise tables. 
    • 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. - Check-In/Registration for WHD Teachers and Students
  • April 20, 2020 (Monday):
    • 7:00 - 8:30 a.m. - Assist at registration table
    • 7:00 - 9:00 a.m. - Manage merchandise table
    • 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. - Manage merchandise table
    • 11:00 - 1:00 p.m. - Manage merchandise table
    • 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. - Manage merchandise table
    • 3:00 - 3:30 p.m. - Pack up merchandise table and take to Hilton Boardroom. 
    • 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. - MHRGC Building Assistant
    • 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. - MHRGC Building Assistant
    • 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. - Assistant in Judge's Room (Hilton Garden Ballroom) (Need 2 volunteers)
    • 3:00-4:00 p.m. - Need 2 volunteers to hand out 2020 WHD programs as teachers and students enter the MHRGC ballroom for the Awards Ceremony.
